Major Excitement, More Changes and Minor Disappointments

Major Excitement:
I'm going to India!  I'm beyond excited about the prospect and can't wait for my first visit to this wonderful country.  I'm traveling with one of my favorite people in the whole world and being taken in by her gracious friends.  The trip is to start with a wedding and to continue with a whirlwind a tour of four cities near New Delhi.  Not much gets me more excited than an upcoming trip and the excellent company that I get to travel in.

More Changes:
It's been a while since I've posted.  In the interim I watched a documentary Vegucated.  It was an interesting film directed by a woman who has taken on a vegan life style and follows three New Yorkers as they attempt the same for six weeks.  It was pretty interesting, specifically the information regarding the resources used in the production of animal products.  I always knew we were destroying our world but never realized how quickly.  It also spoke of and showed video of some of the conditions that the animals live under.  Needless to say I almost had to turn off the movie from nausea.

The culmination of all of this is that I'm in the process of trying out a vegetarian life style, with the goal of eventually eating vegan for a month.  We'll see how vegetarianism goes but so far so good.  It's not hard to avoid meat when images of the living conditions of livestock flash through my head every time I see a burger or a steak.  I bought two cookbooks, one vegetarian, one vegan.  I tried out the first recipie that struck my fancy from the vegan book, a shitake mushroom and bok choy rice noodle soup.  It was tasty but for the minor exception that at the very end I went to add the ground black pepper and misjudged "to taste" when the lid nearly came off and I dumped a ton of pepper into it.  I tried to skim it off the top and partially succeeded.  I ended up straining the veggies and adding new broth in an attempt to rescue it.  It didn't turn out too bad.

Minor Disappointments
This month's race was cancelled.  I signed up and even corralled additional friends into joining in and this morning found out that it was snowed out.  It doesn't look like I'll manage a race a month this year, but not for lack of trying.  This was actually the snow date for the race.  The race had already been snowed out once!  Maybe I'll just try to get in 12 races in 12 months.  We'll see.
